MATTHEW KOOYOMJIAN

Matthew is a Massachusetts based educator, coach, and adjudicator who has been training dancers for over a decade. Matthew holds a Bachelor of Arts from the Joan Phelps Palladino School of Dance at Dean College and trained under the mentorship of Nicole Cavalloro, Paula Meola, and Joan Phelps Palladino. He was also a company member with the Dean College Dance Company, under the direction of Jill Silverman and Jennie & Company, a modern/jazz company directed by Jennie Membrino-Nano.

Matthew also coaches and manages an elite competitive dance team in central Massachusetts where his students continue to have outstanding success both regionally and nationally receiving numerous regional and national awards, including regional and national titles, overall high score awards, and regional and national ADCC Studio of Excellence awards. His students continue to be accepted to some of the country’s top colleges and summer training programs. Matthew is on staff at several New England studios, where he teaches jazz, modern, contemporary, and ballet and adjudicates for several dance competitions nationwide.

Matthew is known for a meticulous technical and pedagogical approach to dance coupled with fostering the growth of his student’s artistic individuality. His classes focus on creating strong foundations, strength, and flexibility by building a solid core and teaching proper body alignment with energy and excitement. His class structure and choreography extend from the philosophy that dance is art athleticized.
